Boiler repair in Longbridge, B31

For most of the twentieth century Longbridge meant one thing: the car works, home to Austin and later MG Rover. Since the plant closed, much of the site has been redeveloped with a new town centre, offices and hundreds of new homes, while the older streets around it keep their inter-war and post-war semis. That gives Longbridge an unusual mix: some of the newest boilers in south Birmingham next to some of the oldest. If yours has a fault, send an enquiry with your postcode and the details, and we arrange one of our local Gas Safe registered engineers who covers B31.

Who should fix a boiler in a new-build home?

Before booking any repair on a newer home, work out who is responsible, because it can save you money.

The builder. Most new homes come with a warranty such as NHBC Buildmark. In the first two years the builder is usually responsible for putting right defects in the home, which can include the heating installation. Report the fault to the developer’s customer care team.

The manufacturer. Boilers often come with their own warranty, sometimes for many years, usually on condition that the boiler was registered and serviced every year. If the boiler is still covered, contact the manufacturer first, as unauthorised repairs may affect the warranty.

Your own engineer. Once both warranties have ended, or for faults they do not cover, send us an enquiry and the engineer will diagnose the fault and price the repair.

Keep your boiler’s benchmark checklist and service records together. Whoever repairs the boiler will want to see them.

Which faults are common in newer systems?

Pressure drops in the first months. A newly filled system holds air that slowly escapes through radiator and boiler vents. Each time, the pressure falls a little. One or two top-ups is normal; regular top-ups suggest a leak. Our losing pressure guide explains how to top up safely. On an Ideal boiler, low pressure shows as F1.

Gurgling and noise. That same trapped air can cause gurgling in the pipes and radiators. Bleeding the radiators usually fixes it; see boiler making noise.

Frozen condensate pipes. New homes are not immune. An external condensate pipe that is too narrow or poorly insulated can freeze in a cold snap, and the boiler will lock out. On a Worcester Bosch that often shows as EA.

What about the older homes around Longbridge?

The inter-war and post-war houses near the Bristol Road and towards Rednal tend to have older combis or system boilers, with the familiar faults of age: worn pumps, diverter valves and sludge. Our Northfield page covers the repair or replace question in detail.

What happens after you send an enquiry?

Tell us your Longbridge postcode, the boiler make and model, how old the home and boiler are, and what is happening. We pass it to a local engineer who covers B31, who arranges a visit, finds the fault and gives a price before starting work. All gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers; check the engineer’s ID card on the Gas Safe Register when they arrive.

Which nearby areas do we cover?

We cover Northfield, West Heath, Rednal, Frankley and Bournville. For what an annual check includes, see boiler servicing; for typical UK repair prices, see the cost guide.

Boiler repair in Longbridge: local questions

Do you cover all of Longbridge?

Yes. We cover Longbridge and the surrounding B31 streets, including the newer developments on the former car works site, and out towards Rednal, West Heath and Northfield. Put your postcode in the enquiry and we will confirm.

My home is under two years old. Who fixes the boiler?

Check your new home warranty first. Under schemes such as NHBC Buildmark, the builder is usually responsible for putting right defects in the first two years, and the boiler may also have its own manufacturer warranty. If neither applies, send us an enquiry.

Will using my own engineer affect the boiler warranty?

It can. Some manufacturers require warranty repairs to go through them. Contact the manufacturer first if the boiler is still under warranty. For annual servicing, any Gas Safe registered engineer can usually carry it out, but keep the record.

Why does the pressure on my new boiler keep dropping?

In a new system, small amounts of trapped air work their way out over the first months, and each time the pressure drops a little. Topping up once or twice is normal. Needing to top up regularly suggests a leak that should be found.

How quickly can someone come out in Longbridge?

Same-day callouts where available. No heating or hot water is often attended the same day, but it depends on engineer availability, so we cannot promise a time.
