Boiler repair in Acocks Green, B27
Acocks Green grew up around its railway station, with late Victorian and Edwardian houses near the village centre and wide streets of inter-war semis spreading out towards Fox Hollies and the Solihull border. Across that mix you will find every kind of heating: combis in smaller homes, system boilers with a hot water cylinder in larger ones, and plenty of homes where the controls have been upgraded several times. If your heating has stopped, send an enquiry with your postcode and what is happening, and we arrange one of our local Gas Safe registered engineers who covers B27.
Is it the boiler or the controls?
A boiler only fires for the heating when something asks it to. That request comes from your controls: a programmer or timer, a room thermostat, and on cylinder systems a motorised valve and a cylinder thermostat. When any of these fails, the boiler sits idle and looks broken.
A useful test: does the boiler still heat the hot water? If it does, the burner, gas supply and ignition are almost certainly fine, and the fault is in the heating side of the controls.
Which control faults are most common?
Room thermostats and wireless receivers. Battery-powered thermostats stop calling for heat when the batteries run low, and wireless models can lose their pairing with the receiver near the boiler. Fresh batteries and the re-pairing steps in the manual solve a surprising number of “broken boiler” calls.
Programmers and timers. After a power cut, older mechanical timers lose their setting and digital ones can revert to factory times. Check the clock and the heating periods before anything else.
Smart thermostats. These depend on Wi-Fi, an app and a receiver wired to the boiler. A schedule change, holiday mode or a lost connection can all stop the heating. The engineer can check the wiring and whether the boiler is being asked for heat; app and account problems are a matter for the thermostat maker.
Motorised valves. In homes with a cylinder, a valve directs hot water to the radiators, the cylinder or both. A failed motor or a stuck valve can leave you with no hot water, no heating, or heating that will not switch off.
When is it the boiler after all?
If the boiler shows a fault code, will not light for anything, or starts and then stops, the problem is inside the boiler. Start with our guide to a boiler that won’t fire up, or see boiler keeps switching off if it runs briefly and cuts out. On a Worcester Bosch an overheat lockout shows as E9, which often comes back to circulation rather than controls.
What happens when you send an enquiry?
Tell us your Acocks Green postcode, the boiler make and model, which controls you have and whether the hot water still works. We pass your enquiry to a local engineer who covers B27, and they contact you to arrange a visit. The engineer tests the boiler and the controls together, explains what has failed and gives a price before any work starts. All gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers; you can check their ID card on the Gas Safe Register when they arrive.
Which nearby areas do we cover?
We cover Hall Green, Tyseley, Yardley, Sheldon and Olton, through to Solihull.
Servicing and upgrades
An annual boiler service checks the boiler itself; mention your controls when you book so the engineer can look at those too. For typical UK prices on valves, thermostats and other parts, see the cost guide.
